WILLIAM F. YORK: Gilman, McLaughlin & Hanrahan has been a force in the business and legal community in Boston for more than 40 years. Real estate development and other aspects of the law are truly strengths of the firm.

JOHN B. SHEVLIN JR.: Our office handles a wide range of real estate cases, ranging from acquisition of a single family home of two to condominium developments in excess of 300 units.

THEONIE J. ALICANDRO: This is a very complex area of law. I think it's important that a real estate attorney knows other types of law, such as corporate law, to organize the entity that may take title of the property. You need to be familiar with various tax aspects of a transaction. It's very important to sort of understand all the different pieces, put them all together and give your client good advice.

WILLIAM F. YORK: I think the simplification in dealing with a transaction is to break it down, to understand the transaction, and then to sit with the client and go through each and every aspect of the transaction. Ultimately, it's the client that matters, his or her understanding of the transaction. And what his or her goal is becomes our goal.
